BizMovie brings the best of technology, business, and financial education to life for children in grades 3-8! During this project-based learning (PBL) curriculum unit, students become entrepreneurs as they work in teams of six to start and run their own movie production companies. This real-world simulation gives students the opportunity to create animated movies while maintaining a financially successful business.
Students work together to develop, storyboard, and produce an animated movie entirely of their own creation. With the online movie-making platform, GoAnimate4Schools, students are able to make the same decisions movie makers do – character and setting creation, as well as adding dialogue and actions to their movie.
BizMovie doesn’t just focus on movie-making; students learn how to run a financially viable business. They are responsible for obtaining start up capital for their company and making sure their finances are in order. Throughout the program, students carefully track all expenses, revenue, and other financial transactions. Students reconcile their bank accounts with financial logs multiple times throughout the program and even complete an income statement and balance sheet. This rigorous and comprehensive program develops and reinforces 21st century skills, including teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving while encouraging the students of today to be the financially and technologically literate leaders of tomorrow.
The BizMovie program includes a Teacher Manual with detailed lesson plans and enough supplies for a class of 30 students. By purchasing BizMovie, teachers also receive a one-year subscription to the GoAnimate4Schoolsplatform for 30 students and one teacher.
BizMovie was originally developed by BizWorld.org in collaboration with the National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) in order to bring together important technology skills in a business context.
