Credit Union Partners in Education (CU-PIE)
Annual Speech Competition
One of the best ways to help young Californians reach their goals is to encourage financial literacy.
On Thursday, April 18, the Credit Union Partners in Education (CU-PIE) hosted their annual speech competition. Representatives from various Sacramento area credit unions write and present a speech based on the year’s theme. In 2013, contestants were asked to present “Financial Bite…Bite of Reality”. Seven speeches were presented, each employing different techniques to relay the importance of preparing for the bite of one’s financial future. The speakers touched on how credit unions help their members obtain financial well-being.
Anthony Plowden earned 1st place, and took the coveted trophy back to Golden 1 Credit Union. The top 3 speakers were rewarded a cash prize for their efforts.
The annual event gives future leaders a forum to share original ideas and to remind credit unions of our shared heritage of improving the well-being of our communities.
CU-PIE is a non-profit organization which has been actively supporting financial literacy for more than 20 years. Members of CU-PIE consist of credit union employees and volunteers. CU-PIE offers financial institutions, non-profits, community leaders and other professionals the necessary training and resources to help them successfully deliver financial literacy presentations to youth and adults in our community. In 2013, CU-PIE partnered with United Way and the Bank On California program to conduct training sessions for various organizations assisting residents in taking control of their financial future.
