CFE Fund Announces New Funding Opportunity: Bank On Fellowship!

The Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund (CFE Fund), with the generous support of Wells Fargo, announced a new, multi-city Bank On Fellowship opportunity!

Through this Fellowship, the CFE Fund will provide match funding of up to $45,000 per year for two years to as many as five Bank On coalitions to support a full-time staff position (a Fellow) to lead their coalition’s activities. In addition, the CFE Fund will provide intensive in-kind technical assistance support, training, and resources individually and to the cohort of Fellows and host coalitions, and will assist coalitions with additional fundraising for long- term sustainability.

Since 2005, cities across the country have adopted municipal banking access programs, leading to the opening of more than half a million new transactional accounts. However, it is clear that dedicated, full-time staffing resources are a critical element of coalition success. A lack of these resources often hampers their ability to achieve momentum and success, and leaves the field lacking in a pipeline of professionals proficient in sustainable banking access and municipal integration strategies.

The CFE Fund seeks proposals from Bank On coalitions looking to work with us and a cohort of others to build out and professionalize their banking access and financial inclusion efforts. Coalitions must be committed to supporting the efforts of, and matching the funding for, a dedicated Fellow to coordinate their work ensuring that their residents have access to safe and affordable financial products and services.

The CFE Fund will hold an informational webinar on this opportunity on Tuesday, May 2, 2017; applications are due by Friday, June 2, 2017. For more information and to apply, visit the CFE Fund’s online grant portal. If you have questions on this Fellowship opportunity, contact David Rothstein, Principal.
